Art residency in La Courneuve July, 2011.

A group of young Harlem-based poets, musicians and video artists from African and Spanish descent will create together a series of poems and musical performances. The works will deal with African and African-American histories, and explore relationships. Workshops led by Abiodun Oyewole, Mikal Lee and Shawn Bolden will take place at the Thurgood Marshall Academy, one of Harlem’s main schools. This group of aspiring artists will give a series of live public performances at The Shrine in Harlem and a larger performance will be produced in February for Black History Month. In July, members of this group will travel to Paris where they will collaborate with the Louvre Museum and will be involved in various projects organised by FACE. The entire process will be documented in video and an anthology of poems will be published in French and English.
